Learn How To Use Our Color System
The natural skin goes from reddish to yellowish skin undertones with different color saturations and shades. In the CONE Foundation Color System you are able to choose very precisely a skin undertone and a shade to match the right skin color.
We use 3 dimensions in our color code:
- Undertone
- Shade
- Strength / Saturation
1. CHOOSE YOUR UNDERTONE
The undertones goes from yellowish to reddish undertones and has many in between shades. Our system can deliver for all skin undertones the right color.
YELLOWISH UNDERTONES
3Y - more yellow to green
2Y - Yellowish undertone
1Y - slightly yellow to neutral
N - Neutral Undertone
REDDISH UNDERTONES
1R - slightly red to neutral
3R - reddish
5R - more reddish
The number before the letter 1-3 represent different skin undertone lines. A higher number means, that the undertone goes more in the red or yellow direction. The middle point is the N line which has a very neutral colors.
If you are in the Y lines, then the 3Y line is more yellowish then then the 1Y skin undertone line.
If you are in the R lines, then the 5R is much more reddish then the 1R skin undertone line.
The very big advantage for choosing a color is, that all colors in one undertone line keep always the same color hue. This is very important to know, because you can select first the undertone of the skin and then you can easily find the right color, if you choose the shade for the brightness.
2. CHOOSE YOUR SHADE
Shades are the brightness of the foundation color. The last number from the CONE Color Codes are the shade brightness.
It starts from 10 from the lightest and ends at 100 to the darkest shade. The system is very precise and you can be sure you keep the color hue, if you choose different shades.
Our shades are separated into 4 skin brightness groups:
10-20 Light
30-40 Medium
45-65 Tan
70-100 Dark
3. DO YOU NEED A STRONGER COLOR?
Some people has a more or a stronger color. This is called saturation. Especially in the Tan Colors you find a huge variation for the saturation of the skin color.
There are special lines in the tan shades which are stronger and more saturated. This stronger colors have a small S at the end of the color number codes. This means, that this colors have a stronger color saturation. S stands for a stronger color.
